How to protect your computer from the WannaCry virus

Method for customers running Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 and later:

 

For client operating systems:

  1. Open Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows features on or off.

  2. In the Windows Features window, clear the SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support checkbox, and then click OK to close the window.

  3. Restart the system.

For server operating systems:

  1. Open Server Manager and then click the Manage menu and select Remove Roles and Features.

  2. In the Features window, clear the SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support check box, and then click OK to close the window.

  3. Restart the system.

 

Metod for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008:


With Windows PowerShell 2.0 or a later version of PowerShell

To disable SMBv1 on the SMB server, run the following cmdlet:

 

  • Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters" SMB1 -Type DWORD -Value 0 -Force

 

Note: You must restart the computer after you make these changes.

 

Or with Registry Editor

Important This article contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. 
To disable SMBv1 on the SMB server, configure the following registry key:

 

Registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

Registry entry: SMB1

REG_DWORD: 0 = Disabled
